the mountain trip

Our first of two large trips took place this past weekend. What an amazing trip to say the least.

I had high hopes for this trip. I was going to explore in the Canadian mountains and i didn't have to plan anything. The trip started out terrible for me. One thing lead to another until things got extremely out of hand and i was past my breaking point. I called them all on it. I am treated like one of the guys but i was the only one getting this treatment. (didn't help i was the only girl) Things took a turn for the better after this and i started to enjoy the trip.

We explored some old mines and found plenty of old mining equipment and some ghost towns. Nothing like Saskatchewan - i was fascinated by everything including the mountains, water, wildlife and more. I was educated in the local mining for silver by a man at a museum in a ghost town. It was both educational and entertaining. I got plenty of exercise hiking the mountains and had my ears popped countless times. We saw both coal and silver mines which was very neat.

We also did some tourist stuff like visit hot spring caves which was definitely a highlight in the trip. We stayed at cabins in the mountains and the views were spectacular. I learned alot on this trip and would definitely go back.

Some events from the trip:
- getting covered in coal dust
- having a snowball thrown at me in summer
- seeing the Canadian mountains
- fire near a lake looking at mountains and an almost full moon
- museum tour in a ghost town
- driving up mountain roads
- climbing a crooked ladder then sliding through a fan hole
- forgetting a flashlight and finding one in the building
- climbing under fences
- being covered in salt
- having a bear near our cabin
- hot spring caves
- dealing with three men in a tiny car for 3000+ km

Pictures are in the process of being sorted and should be posted soon. Check back soon.

school central

Went out on a day trip shopping the other day with a friend. Driving down the highway i quickly started to notice many abandonment's along the way. Making note of each i stopped at each of them on the way back. Most were modern schools schools that just sat in tiny towns along a main highway. To my surprise most just sat abandoned and were not re-used.

Since we were on a strict schedule i decided to only photograph the outside and document where these buildings are for future reference. I plan to go and see the inside of these places in the neat future. The architecture and decayed exteriors are still beautiful and i plan to share those with you.

Next few are not schools but definitely worth sharing

underground history

The other day i was bored and it was getting dark. I grabbed my camera and a friend and we hit the countryside. Full of valleys, old streams and loads of history i knew we were bound to find something. As we turned off into the rolling hills we soon realized we were not alone. Her family was in a vehicle behind us and decided to follow all the way from the city. (I thought we were a bit to old for this)

We headed towards an old mine we were determined to find.

Laughing as we drove because we were being stalked by her family we drove down a windy road and kept looking around. Running out of sunlight quick we finally found it and jumped out to photograph it. Disorganized because of the last minute i was the only one with a camera and a memory card. I snapped a few shots and continued down the road after a chat with her family. Here is a picture of the mine - it has a dedication to those who once worked there.

abandoned technology

I have spent the past two days exploring the school.

My favorite room is what i would like to call "the room where computers go to die." Its basically a room in the basement with no windows that is full of old computers & electronics. Anyone that knows me will tell you that i am a tech nerd so spending time in this room made me feel right at home. I was shocked that so many computers and electronics were left to be vandalized by kids who sneek in. Some of the cables are still in sealed packages. Mind Boggling!

Here are the pics:

school distraction

I have re-located for the summer. Got myself a job and lots of new places to explore. I started to settle into my new place but got easily distracted by an abandoned school. I quickly grabbed my friend and a couple of cameras to explore the school. Leading the way with my mag light we wandered the dark desolate hallways.

This was one of the few urban things i have explored. Please full view pics as most of the school was pitch black and detail can be seen in full view.

the gymnasium
classroom with tiles floating in water
many many desks left all over
water damage at its best
flooded hallways
this is black mold covering cobwebs
On every trip i am the one who gets dirty first
its thing like this that turn my pants & jacket black
In a dark windowless room in the basement sat this desk...

one church lead to another

SaskUrbex and i decided to get out on one last trip before i moved away for the summer. We both came up with very different ideas about where to go but decided to go with mine. Near the city an area we havent explored much. A few potential ghost towns and churches in mind we hit the road.

It started with a small church which lead to other churches down the road. Since we went at night this gave me a chance to experiment with long exposure & light painting. I also got to try out my new camera!

PLEASE FULL VIEW THE DARKER PHOTO'S!

this was a hall beside the church
because Saskurbex flips every breaker in buildings we found it had power
