Overgrown Barracks
So during the great race we stopped an abandoned military base. The original plan was always to drive out and photograph this location but we decided to tie it into the great race. We had decided to document it in the morning as we drove up to it fairly late and were unsure how active it was. Not much is left of this base, it was originally very huge but has now dwindled down to barracks, power plant and a few other buildings. Most of the housing is gone but the remains of the streets are still around. For more information please visit: http://blog.saskurbex.com/2012/06/04/former-prairie-air-force-base/
A couple of the barracks were converted into hog barns

an asylum! a groundhog!
I know what your thinking, what does a groundhog have to do with urban exploration? Well let me tell you.. I recently went on a trip with saskurbex and we decided to stop and photograph what used to be an asylum. Many beautiful buildings, some used, some not we had to photograph this piece of history. While driving around the grounds I saw something jumping across the lawn, it was the size of a small dog but look more like a squirrel from the distance. After parking the car I walked over to it.. and indeed it was a groundhog. I have never seen one in the wild and one living on the ground of an old asylum was definitely interesting. So here he is.. and a picture of the building.

Great Race 2012
Here are a couple pictures from tasks on the list...
Picture of Weyburn Mental, I am pointing to where we are a standing in relation to the map as Weyburn Mental is now demolished, but it was a beautiful Kirkbride style asylum.
Christmas decorations - you may recognize them from my annual Christmas post
Doing the YMCA on an abandoned toilet... Not the most enjoyable thing in a pitch black abandoned bathroom in an abandoned town hall
Trying to light paint a sign and an abandoned church all at once.
Our camera collection in an abandoned church - still missing a few camera's though.
